Submolecular Ligand Size and Spacing for Cell Adhesion (Adv. Mater. 27/2022)

چکیده

Cell Adhesion In article number 2110340, Ramasamy Paulmurugan, Young Keun Kim, Heemin Kang, and co-workers report template-mediated in situ tuning of nanoligand size spacing. They demonstrate that submolecular ligand spacing magnetic anchoring facilitate adhesion-structure assembly-mediated pro-healing polarization host macrophages. Increasing the significantly suppresses macrophage adhesion whereas increasing both slightly inhibits it.

Metamaterials: Snapping Mechanical Metamaterials under Tension (Adv. Mater. 39/2015).

By exploiting snap-through instabilities, D. Pasini and co-workers design a damage-tolerant mechanical metamaterial that snaps sequentially under tension, thereby accommodating a very large deformation up to 150%. On page 5931, they describe how the nonlinear mechanical response of the metamaterial can be robustly programmed by tuning the architecture of its unit cell.

Physical interpretation of the maximum receptor-ligand bond spacing to ensure cell adhesion in ligand-coated substrates.

Recent experiments by Arnold et al. (Arnold, M.; Cavalcanti-Adam, E. A.; Glass, R.; Blummel, J.; Eck, W.; Kantlehner, M.; Kessler, H.; Spatz, J. P. ChemPhysChem 2004, 5, 383) revealed that a distance of less than 58-73 nm between receptor-ligand bonds is necessary to ensure focal adhesion in integrin-mediated cell adhesion on ligand-coated substrates. In this letter, we consider focal adhesion ...

Ligand-Induced Cell Adhesion in Synapse Formation

Construction of the neural netwoks depends largely on precise contacts between neurons and non-neuronal cells. Numerous studies have described different types of adhesive interactions between cells in the nervous system. These include adhesive contacts between neural cell bodies, axonal attachments to glial cells, axon fasciculation, connection between preand postsynaptic specializations as wel...

Memory in receptor-ligand-mediated cell adhesion.

Single-molecule biomechanical measurements, such as the force to unfold a protein domain or the lifetime of a receptor-ligand bond, are inherently stochastic, thereby requiring a large number of data for statistical analysis. Sequentially repeated tests are generally used to obtain a data ensemble, implicitly assuming that the test sequence consists of independent and identically distributed (i...

The role of fibrinogen spacing and patch size on platelet adhesion under flow.

Platelet adhesion to the vessel wall during vascular injury is mediated by platelet glycoproteins binding to their respective ligands on the vascular wall. In this study we investigated the roles that ligand patch spacing and size play in regulating platelet interactions with fibrinogen under hemodynamic flow conditions. To regulate the size and distance between patches of fibrinogen we develop...
